Effects of sluice gate operation on sediment flushing in Bekasi weir using a 1D numerical model

Sedimentation upstream of a weir is common phenomenon, especially for river with high sedimentation. In the long term, this can lead to problems since discharge capacity will decrease due rise riverbed, as experienced in Bekasi Weir, West Java, Indonesia. The accumulated sediments increased up 1.5 m from its original riverbed decade. One easiest ways overcome issue return elevation actual by manual excavation or sediment flushing using sluice gate. This paper discusses effects operating three gates Weir deposited sediments. analysis was carried out through 1D modeling MIKE-11 software analyze morphological after variations gate opening scenarios. Finally, it found that without any excavation, method one fully-opened best solution giving significant bed degradation 1 m, reducing flood level, and maintaining upstream-downstream freeboard. could be more effective when combined normalization.
